Charges are pending against Washington, DC resident Anthony Bowser, 31, who injured a trooper inside a work zone area in the inner loop of I-495 near University Boulevard at approximately 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 22.

Police say that Bowser was driving a white Mercedes SUV when he lost control and sped into the construction zone, rear-ending the Maryland State Police patrol vehicle, where the trooper was sitting inside.

The trooper was taken by paramedics to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center for treatment of undisclosed injuries. Officials noted that when Bowser crashed into the police cruiser, its emergency lights were activated.

It is believed that speed and impairment may have contributed to the crash. The condition of the trooper was unclear later on Monday morning.

Bowser will face potential charges following the conclusion of the investigation and consultation with the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, according to police.
